| The representative living things in
the tidal flat located in Gunsan are estuarine grapsid crab,
Chinese mitten crab, goby, Tectonatia janthostomoides, barnacle,
corbicula, Nerita japonica, and clam worm. It is good for
the students or families to experience a tidal flat because
it has various living things and good natural features. It
is also the place important to the summer birds and the ducks
and the wild geese in winter owing to its wide and well-developed
tidal flat. A lot of seagulls, plovers, snipes living on the
basic aquatic plants and fish and shellfish are visiting the
tidal flat, too.

Seonyudo is about 50km from Gunsan by boat, and there used to
be the old Gunsan camp, one of the naval force bases of the
Joseon Dynasty era. It is the most famous of about 20 islands
around Gogunsan, and it is known as the most beautiful island
of the eight famous spots in Gogunsan. It has the Seonyudo Beach
which is famous for Myeongsasimni, the white sand beach as long
as 4km, and its scenic beauty harmonizes with other islands
around it. It is linked to the islands such as Munyeodo, Jangjado,
Daejangdo by bridges, so you can come and go to the islands
by bike or on foot. A legend says that two Taoist hermits with
supernatural powers played paduk there. Hence the name Seonyudo.
Actually it has the shape of the two hermits sitting face to
face over a paduk board. Seonyudo Island well-known for the
legend has the eight famous spots such as Seonyudo Beach famous
for fine and clean sand, sunset, the wide geese coming down
to sandy plain, Mangju Waterfall, Samdoguibeom, Jangjaeohwa,
the crimson foliage of Wallyoung, and 12 peaks of Mt. Musan.
The beautiful sunrise and sunset are seen on the Mangjubong
Peak 152 meters above the sea level where a royal subject exiled
to Seounyudo Island used to miss the king looking at the way
to Hanyang, the capital of Joseon Dynasty, and Mangju Waterfall,
small and large waterfalls around Mangjubong Peak formed after
a heavy rain, present a grand sight. All the islands including
Seonyudo have fine and clean sand, shoaling beach, and gentle
slope, so it is good for sea-bathing. Its clear water is also
good for scuba diving. The lion-shaped rock and the old lady-shaped
rock of Jangjado Island, Dongnimmun Rock of Bangchukdo Island,
the fantastic rocks and stones of Myeongdo Island and Whengyeongdo
Island, and the seagulls of Maldo Island are also worth visiting.
