- Features: They have a white
stripe from the forehead to the upper beak. The color of
back head, the crown of head, back neck, and the side of
head is dark reddish brown. They have a dark brown line
along the white stripe around their back beak. The color
of the space between the shoulders, back, the feathers of
shoulders, waist, and the upper feathers covering tail is
ashy brown. The end part of the upper feathers covering
tail is white. The breast is light yellowish brown. The
stomach and the lower feathers covering tail are white.
The feathers of wing are slate with dark brown tint. The
big feathers and the middle feathers covering wings are
ashy brown. The small feathers covering wings are ashy brown.
The tail is slate gray with brown tint, and it has a white
wide edge. The beak is black, and the legs are orange.
- Mode of life: They are winter
season birds. They are at lakes, rice fields, marshes, bays,
and reclaimed lands, and they come down to the ground and
search for food in a group in the morning and evening. They
are in a slant line or V-line in the sky.
- Call: They are heard "gwa-gwa"
or "gwan-gwan", and they have the note similar
to that of goose, "gwa-o-gwa-o".
- Breeding time: They make
a plate-shaped nest after spreading stems of dried grass
in a sunken ground. The number of eggs of the same litter
is 4-6, and the color is creamy white.
- Taste: They live on water
plants, seaweeds, land plants, rice, barley, wheat, green
grass, and shellfish. .
- Range: They pass the winter
in the central and southern part of Siberia, Kamchatka Peninsula,
from the southern part to northern part of Mongolia, Korea,
