- Features: They have eyebrow
line of white with light reddish and rusty color tint over
their eyes. The under part of chin is white, and the throat
and the fore neck are light ashy brown and have the dark
axis unit. The back neck is dark brown and has the light
reddish rusty wide edge. The back is black brown and has
the light brown edge with light reddish rusty color tint.
The place between the shoulders and the lower back are little
gray. The breast and the stomach are light yellowish brown
with the reddish rusty color tint and have the black brown
axis unit. The upper feathers covering tail is light reddish
rusty color and have the dark brown horizontal stripe. The
lower feathers covering tail are white with reddish rusty
color tint and have the dark brown vertical dapples. The
beak is black, and the base of the lower beak is a skin
color. The legs are blue gray or livid.
- Mode of life: They are winter
birds. They pass the winter on the coast, the tidal flat
of bay, reclaimed lands, estuary delta, salt farm, and farm
land. They come down to land alone or in a group of 20-30
or 200-300. They are sometimes mixed with Indian curlews,
and they have the habits similar to those of them.
- Call: They have a loud note,
"pi-yo, pi-yo, pi-yo" or "ho-yee-ho-yee",
and they are heard "ho-wee" in a distance.
- Breeding time: They lay eggs
from June till July. The number of eggs of the same litter
is 4. The eggs have the brown dappled design with green
tint and the small spots on a dirty olive green.
- Range: They can be found
in Sakhalin, the Kuril Island, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and
Micronesia.
