According to the project, the industrial complexes have been under construction since 1970's. Local Industrial Complex was completed in 1992. 2,070,000 pyong of Gunjang National Industrial Complex in the area of 40,960,000 pyong was completed in 1995, and the part covering 4,820,000 pyong is under construction setting a goal of completion by 2006. Especially Gunsan Free Trade Zone covering 900,000 pyong in the industrial complex covering 4,820,000 pyong seems to promote Gunsan's development as an international industrial city. The ports include the inner port, the outer port, and the new port between Gunsan and Janghang. The inner port has a role of the wharf for fishing boat and passenger ships while the outer port where 16 large sized ocean liners of 20,000 ton simultaneously come alongside is for international trade. Tourist attractions New Port between Gunsan and Janghang The construction work on the new port between Gunsan and Janghang began in 1990, and it will be completed by 2011. 16 berths will be constructed by 2006 and four berths by 2011. after the construction is completed, the docking capacity of the piers where the ships come alongside will increase from 16 ships to 36 ships, and the cargo-working capacity will increase from 11,640,000 tonnage to 37,190,000 tonnage. Gunsan Free Trade Zone The geopolitical condition and the abundant infrastructure of the industrial complex are the optimum condition for a free trade zone. The area covering 380,000 pyong is being completed, and it will be extended as the grounds near the port covering 520,000 pyong is designated as the site for the free trade zone. Gunjang National Industrial Complex The area covering 2,070,000 pyong of the national industrial complex in the area of Gunsan and Janghang covering 40,960,000 pyong was completed in 1995, where GM Daewoo and the automotive industries at work in it.
